Precise CTO on Data Center Modernization & Cloud Adoption at 2019 Open Group Conference
Precise Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Ben Duan, presented at The Open Group conference hosted at Scottsdale, AZ. The Open Group is an industry consortium that develops “open, vendor-neutral technology standards and certifications”. It has over 625 members including private companies and government agencies. Its enterprise architecture framework, The Open Group Architecture Framework, or TOGAF, is widely adopted and respected by the industry.
The title of Dr. Duan’s presentation was “Driving Data Center Modernization and Cloud Adoption Maturity in Public Sector”. Dr. Duan spoke about an overarching data center modernization framework that leverages value-based enterprise architecture, ITIL, ITSM to drive for people enablement, process improvement, and new data center and cloud technology adoption. He presented a hybrid data center reference architecture based upon technology stacks including software defined network and storage (SDN, SDS), Bare Metal, hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), server virtualization, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and containerization, in conjunction with end-to-end service automation, DevSecOps, “single-pane-of-glass” data center monitoring, and multi-cloud management, to achieve the future state of the on-premises data center and multi-cloud operations.
Dr. Duan then walked the attendees through a technology adoption decision tree used to facilitate the process for selecting appropriate on-premises and cloud technologies based on security, viability, total cost of ownership (TCO), and efficiency.
To finish the presentation, Dr. Duan demonstrated a cloud Center of Excellence (CoE) framework and initiatives to improve the maturity of cloud adoption process.
